Island Park Campground
Island Park is located in the south part of the city and is bounded on the south and west by the Des Moines River. The Des Moines River Dam is a popular fishing spot for northern and walleye. One canoe access can be found at the south end of the park next to the campground.
The park includes a lighted athletic field for all school football, baseball events and city baseball games, two lighted softball fields, lighted horseshoe courts, picnic area, large shelter-house with tables and free electricity for cooking, playground equipment, restrooms and an outdoor pool. Cooperation between DNR and the city added two boat ramps in 1996.
The sites are available on a first-come first-served basis, we do not take reservations. The campground is monitored daily by the Parks & Police Department Staff. All people camping must provide their personnel information, how long they’re staying, vehicle license number, along with the appropriate camping fees on the envelope that is provided in the brown registration box. When the person camping has completed their registration. Remove the site tab off the envelope and deposit the envelope with fees in the orange box to the left of the brown registration box. Then place the site tab portion of the envelope on the camp site post.
