Blue Mounds State Park

Blue Mounds State Park is full of natural surprises. Start with the Sioux Quartzite cliff, rising 100 feet from the plains. A bison herd grazes on the prairie. Prickly pear cactus blooms in June and July. A sea of prairie grasses and flowers sway in the wind. The park is also a favorite for birdwatchers who want to see nesting blue grosbeaks and other birds. Enjoy camping and hiking.

Stay awhile at the park's main campground, and choose from one of 40 electric or 33 non-electric sites. Most of these lovely sites are grassy and well-shaded. For your convenience, there are also two shower/restroom buildings in the campground.

Have you ever wondered what it was like to sleep in a Tipi? Tipis sites are available and are a popular experience at the park.

Surrounding a small shelter building, this campground contains 14 sites and offers a more secluded camping experience.

While at Blue Mounds State Park, enjoy a family gathering at the amphitheater, visit the Upper Mound Lake Dam, experience a breathtaking view of the historic quarry by hiking the trails or rock climbing (many established routes range in difficult levels), ride six miles of paved bike trails into Luverne, encounter a stunning landscape at Eagle Rock--300 feet above the city, visit the interpretive center, take a guided tour of the bison range, and more!
