Plum Creek Park

Description

Plum Creek County Park offers a wide range of first class recreational opportunities located just west of beautiful Walnut Grove, MN – the home of Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Plum Creek park is a 215 acre park located just minutes from historic Walnut Grove. The same Plum Creek that Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote about in her books, runs right through the park. The park also features a large swimming lake, Lake Laura. Lake Laura was created in the late 70’s as a reservoir to help alleviate flooding concerns downstream. It is because of this constantly moving water, that Lake Laura stays fresh and clean throughout the summer months when other area lakes experience excessive algae growth. Fishing is also a popular pastime around the lake. The park maintains 65 RV campsites, and 5 primitive campsites. There are 2 trails around the park that allow users to experience the diverse and serene landscape, one around Lake Laura, and another along the banks of Plum Creek.
